The significance of Ratha Saptami :


Rathasaptami used to fall on Shukla Paksha Saptami of Magha Masa. It is believed that Lord Surya born on this day, for this cause, Rathasaptami is also known as "Suryajayanti". This year Rathsaptami occurs on February 1st, 2020..

Ratha Saptami is an auspicious day for Hindus. People worship Lord Surya with prayers and by visiting nearby Lord Surya or Lord Vishnu temples. Several rituals followed on this day that is similar to "Surya Graha" like Dana and Dharma. The persons who perform these rituals will be purged from all sins and blessed with good health.

Rituals followed on Ratha Saptami :


Should wake up in Arunodaya(before sunrise) samaya and take head bath. Better taking a bath in flowing river, canal or pond while pouring jilledu leaves on the head.

After completing bath, all the family members should sit in place while facing the sun. Take a bowl or pot, light it with fire, flow fresh milk in the pot, mix it with new jaggery, while boiling the milk, each family member should add a fist full of rice to the mixture. Allow it further boil until it shapes to "Paravanna". Offer this "Paravanna" as Naivedya to "Lord Sun". Offer Prayers while giving Arghya.
